Welcome to Loyalist Jams and Farmhouse

Settled nearly 250 years ago, Prince Edward County offered a safe haven for the United Empire Loyalist following the American Revolution. The area provided good for the first loyalist settlers and soon they began to clear the land and develop the area. Located on a main shipping route the “County” provided many safe harbors used by the shipping schooners and alike. Farming also stretched over that land and the establishment of orchards along the southern shorelines. The climate of the County made it a favorable fruit belt for small fruits to grow.

Loyalist Jam Farmhouse is a family home built by my grandparents. It resembles a cottage retreat located on the Milford Road south of Picton. Ideally located within 2 hours of Toronto and 3 hours of Ottawa, offering you a quick escape to slow down and relax.

As a descendant of the early Empire Loyalists, I am still living on the farm land on which I grew up. My farm had been in the family for many generations. My gardens are planted and harvested using the same farming techniques taught to me by my parents and their parents before them.

I learned the art of making Jams and Jellies from both my Grandmother and Mother. The recipes are uncomplicated and use only fresh local fruit and sweeteners like honey, maple syrup or raw cane sugar. Most of the recipes used today have been passed from one generation to another dating back many years.

The kitchen is always a busy place on a farm. Much of the harvest throughout the season is turned into preserves and baked goods.

All natural grown vegeables and fruit from the garden. Nothing tops the pure flavour of freshly harvested food.

Enjoy some time in the country. Our all season farmhouse is available for rent year round.
